TEACHER:                      JANE STEELE is the owner of River House Rug Hooking Studio, Petite Riviere Bridge , NS. Jane studied textile                                              marketing in England and worked with many European Mills supplying the UK garment industry. Moving to Nova                                          Scotia in 2010, Jane started to plan a way to put her knowledge and love of colour, fabric and design into a                                                  business. She learned how to hook and quickly became “hooked”.

WORKSHOP:                 This will be a study of paintings, sculptures, patterns, designs, all depicting nudes, from which the students will                                            get ideas for their own. It will be an artistic project, whether the figures are realistic or not, in true colours or not,                                        to scale or not, in a scene or not, alone or not, big or small, and so on. The inspirations are many so I am hoping                                        for a wide diversity of figures from the students. They can be historical, mystical, silhouetted, surreal, figurative.                                          We will explore the obvious and the not so obvious, for example, an image of a weathervane with a flying cherub,                                        a mermaid on the prow of a ship, Lady Godiva......this will be a tasteful workshop and nothing to do with live                                                models. I hooked a large mat once of a mermaid with green skin. My aim is to really provoke imagination and                                              expand knowledge with all the images and research I have collected.

AFTER STUDYING ALL THE MATERIAL, JANE WILL HELP THE STUDENTS DESIGN AND DRAW THEIR PATTERNS,                                          WHICH CAN BE ANY SIZE. STUDENTS SHOULD BRING THEIR OWN HOOKS, FRAMES, LINEN ETC UNLESS THEY                                          WANT TO BUY FROM JANE - SHE WILL BRING ALL SORTS OF SUPPLIES. IN ADDITION, THE STUDENTS WILL                                              RECEIVE A BEAUTIFUL COFFEE TABLE BOOK OF HOOKED NUDES, WHICH ORIGINALLY RETAILED AT $65. Total                                          cost of workshop to Jane $75.00
