TEACHER: Tanya (Tatiana) Knodel from Sudbury, ON. is our Canadian Rug Hooking Artist of the Year. Her rugs are on exhibit at the Museum from May -mid October, 2023. Tatiana was first introduced to rug hooking in 2008 in Sudbury where she learned that rug hooking is not simply about covering floors. In 2009 she attended the Fibre Festival in Nova Scotia and developed an interest in realistic details. For her, rug hooking was like painting and considered herself a self- taught fibre artist. She designs her own rugs but has hooked a few patterns with “Flying Geese” by Thor Hansen her favourite. In 2014 she discovered the art of dyeing wool and is able to get the colour she wants with her background in chemistry. She has been featured in Celebration, Rug Hooking Magazine and many exhibits. Tatiana is a certified teacher of Ontario Hooking Craft Guild and belongs to the group in Sudbury “Rugs on the Rocks”. Her favourite style of rug hooking is a fine cut (#2 and #3) with sculpting, but enjoys all the other styles. She most enjoys making bags that match clothes.
WORKSHOP: Come, meet and spend the day with our Canadian Rug Hooking Artist / Teacher Tatiana Knodel and view her rugs on exhibit. Simply bring a project of your own to work on and spend the day hooking. If you need any help or have questions with it or any other rug hooking project, such as how to hook it, colour plan or whatever, Tatiana will be there to guide you along and answer all your questions. It will be a fun and relaxing day.
SOMETHING EXTRA: Kits for Tatiana’s Christmas Ornaments (pictured above) will be available for sale from her for $12.00 per kit. Each kit includes 25 g Sugar Bush yarn (8 different colors, approx.. 4 yards each), templates, photographs and instructions on how to hook them.
